The opposition party in Telangana, the Congress, on Wednesday gave a power point presentation on the status of irrigation projects in the state. The presentation was a counter to Chief Minister, K Chandrasekhar Rao's power point on irrigation projects in the legislative assembly earlier.

TPCC president, N Uttam Kumar Reddy made the presentation in front of a gathering of Congress leaders, representatives of civil society and the media. During the three-hour long event at Narayana Reddy auditorium, Uttam Kumar, along with his party colleague Shravan, attempted to explode the chief minister's claim that the government plan for irrigating one crore acres through the proposed redesigning of irrigation projects.

Uttam Kumar also charged the government of indulging in corruption by enhancing Pranahita-Chavella lift irrigation project's cost from Rs. 38,500 crore to over Rs. 83,000 crore on the grounds of redesigning it.

"The claims the Chief Minister made in his presentation are false. He says only 19 lakh acres had irrigation facility when the TRS government came to power in 2014, but we are ready to prove that work was taken up during the previous Congress regime to irrigate over 98.47 lakh acres," the TPCC president said.

He said that government should focus on finishing the pending projects that were almost complete which would  provide irrigation to 29 lakh acres.

"We are not against building projects. In fact, we support the government in development. But, as a responsible opposition party, the Congress will oppose any move that involves corruption," Uttam.
