Telangana government is considering a proposal of increasing the retirement age to a few of the government sector employees.
In several countries, the retirement age is 65, but in India, in about 16 states, it is only 60. The central government recently has increased the retirement age limit to 65. While the high court judges age limit if 62, Supreme Court is 65. After the bifurcation of the Telugu states, even Andhra Pradesh has increased its retirement age limit to 60, but in Telangana, still 58 is continuing.
While the employment associations are demanding to increase the retirement age limit, the junior employees are against it, as their promotion benefits would take a hit. How the government would balance this situation and take a decision, is to be seen.
