Hyderabad is going to have its first Vinayak nimajjanam tank at Cherlapally for immersing Ganesh idols. After the High Court has directed to prevent water bodies from getting polluted, the GHMC has sanctioned Rs 67 lakh to turn a portion of the Koneru lake at Cherlapally into an immersion site.
Hyderabad mayor Bonthu Rammohan, who layed the foundation stone for the tank, said the new immersion tank will be accessible from the road and for the inlets and outlets of the lake.
“The tank, which is part of the Cherlapally water body, will be operational this year. The irrigation department will be calling for tenders and the deadline will be August-end. Immersion will be carried out in September,” Mr Rammohan said.
