New born babies get Aadhaar at hospital for free
Under the Sishu Aadhar project, the GHMC is planning to issue Aadhaar cards for newborns along with birth certificates at government hospitals for free.
Speaking on the issue, Mr Surendra Mohan, additional commissioner (IT) of the GHMC, said, “Babies born in government hospitals will be Aadhaar-enrolled and their birth certificates will be issued within seven days.
This move is expected to support in pushing the Aadhaar/birth certificate/physically challenged into a digital locker of the new born babies. Adding to it, it will also help the health department monitor delivery of all welfare and health-related benefits to an infant, tracking the child from birth to immunisation to school admission.
Additional Commissioner opined that, this new system will serve as a database of children which will assure them timely and assured delivery of services.
