Ban on plastic bags from Aug 1 in Hyderabad
Hyderabad city mayor Bonthu Ram Mohan has said that, from 1st of August, all the traders, shop-owners and representatives of business establishments must use plastic bags of 50 microns and more thickness.
In order to make Hyderabad, a pollution free city, usage of plastic with less microns, should be avoided, as it would harm health and also block the storm water drains, Mr. Bonthu said.
He further said that it is highly objectionable to import plastic bags from the other cities. Regarding this, the Mayor ordered the GHMC officials to take severe action as per the relevant Act.
The GHMC will further deploy staff, to go round the lanes and by-lanes of the twin cities to create awareness about the ill effects of the usage of plastic bags with thickness below 50 microns.
