These days, media is abuzz with the reports that the Centre is going to demonetize Rs. 50 and Rs. 100 currency notes soon as it recently introduced Rs.50 and Rs.200 notes. Hence, the rumors about demonetization of Rs. 50 and Rs. 100 notes spreads like wild fire in the media, especially in social media.

There is also another news making rounds in the media. It says RBI is going to introduce Rs.1,000 notes again before end of this year. The reason for it is to fill the huge gap between Rs. 2,000 and Rs.500 notes.

However, none of these reports mentioned any official confirmation. Somehow, they reached the media and spreading like wild fire.  Realizing the damage going to occur with these rumors Centre responds through its secretary of Union Finance Ministry, Mr. Subash Chandra Garg on Tuesday.  He condemned the media reports as baseless. He said the government neither has any plans to demonetize the small currency nor thinking to introduce Rs.1,000 notes again. He appealed the people of the country not to believe such rumors.
