For the first of its kind in Hyderabad, the new electric buses would run on the city roads. The buses will first operate from various parts of the city to the Shamshabad airport.

According to TSRTC officials, the Silicon rubber insulator manufacturer Goldstone Infratech company has come forward to give an electric bus costing Rs 2 crore to the TSRTC for a trial run.

1 megawatt is the capacity of the charging stations and each of these buses will run for 200 km, on battery, with no question of fuel emission, noise and air pollution. They also bring down the operations costs. The Centre is planning to provide Rs. 795 crores to promote electric vehicles in the cities, during the first 2 fiscals from this year.

According to the data collected from other states, where these electric buses are already in use, it found out that, the operational cost of these buses is almost 50% less than the diesel ones. While the operational cost of diesel bus was Rs 18 per km, the electric bus would cost Rs 9 only.
