In a first of its kind in the country, Hyderabad city police have initiated a database known as Integrated People Information Hub (IPIH), which City Police Commissioner M Mahender Reddy calls it a 360 degree view of every citizen, starting with names, aliases, family details, addresses and information on various documents including passports, Aadhaar cards and driving licenses. While the current database consists of the information of every Hyderabadi, even a state-wide database is getting ready.

The IPIH has data mined from both internal and external sources. The internal sources include information on arrested persons, offenders’ list, missing persons’ reports, FIR and case diaries etc., while external sources span across phone/water/electricity connections, tax payments, passports, voter IDs, RTA license and registration data, e-challans and even terrorist records.

“There are offenders who give different names and addresses when arrested for different crimes. But the IR engine mines through the data and collects common points and gives a complete profile of the person from various data sources, along with previous offence details and even a family tree,” an official said.
